Fall Hunting
by Darik, Owner and Guide
Where has the summer gone? Here it is September already! Not that September is a bad thing—it means the beginning of our fall season. And with fall many of us will be thinking of doves, while others are getting all geared up for waterfowl. Do not forget that grouse and partridge seasons are fast approaching as well as archery antelope and archery deer. Wow, are we going to be busy!
How do we decide on which species to hunt? So many birds, so little time! For now let’s look at the early Canada goose season. There are several time-tested ways to target these giant birds and most of them are effective. However, we have innovations in waterfowling that allow us to make our hunts consistently successful. The main one involves Reel Wings and Deadly Duos decoys. We at Ringneck Retreat have been using these amazing decoys (and will continue to do so) simply because of our continuing success with them. Not to mention the convenience and simplicity. To find out more about these great decoys contact me. I will be glad to tell you all about them (maybe I’ll even let you in on a couple of my decoy secrets).
Ringneck Retreat is a dealer for Reel Wings and Deadly Duos and we would be more than happy to help you get your own spread of these amazing decoys. With the regular fall waterfowl season fast approaching, these decoys can do double duty for ducks. If any hunters out there were fortunate enough to draw a non-resident waterfowl license, give us a call so we can show you a waterfowl hunt you will treasure for years to come. You may even go home with a few tricks for hunting waterfowl in your home area.
I want to wish all of you a safe, exciting, and successful hunting season. Keep your barrel out of the mud!
Lodge News
by Roxann, Lodge Coordinator
The lodge was recently finished! The attention to detail has made it beautiful enough for weddings and luxurious enough to relax in style after a hunt. Book all your corporate events, wedding parties, and, of course, pheasant hunts at Ringneck this fall and winter.
To make your stay more pleasant, we have recently purchased new items for the lodge. We’ve added all new linens for the beds and baths. The kitchen was stocked with new cookware and utensils—everything you would need to prepare any meal from simple to elaborate. New tableware has an outdoor theme, reflecting our love for the wildlife we have in the area.
We’ve added two table and chair sets to our second floor loft area. So whether you are hear for busniness or fun and games, we have a place for you. New patio chairs can be found on the front and back patios for your leisure.
Book your stay now! We still have a few openings during pheasant season. And the lodge is also great for fall corporate retreats, family parties, or wedding events. Give me a call to book a reservation.

I can sense from Darik’s excitment that fall is fast approaching. He has been taking us to the pond down the road and having us work on water retrieves. He has also been setting some frozen birds around the yard and letting us hunt them up. That’s kinda fun but I am looking forward to the real thing! I have been hearing talk of a BDC tourney Labor Day weekend where me and the boys will have a chance to strut our stuff. I am soooo excited!! WOOF WOOF

September Tidbits by Dean, Expert Guide
The beginning of September means dove season. This is a perfect opportunity to get your shooting eye practiced up. And don’t forget your retriever friends. September is also a great time to get them started on real bird retrieves. It’s been a long summer and with fall just around the corner, we all could use a little practice.
Training Tips by Bruce, Expert Trainer
Upon receiving a puppy, acclimate it to sounds as soon as possible. Start with the clapping of hands. Progress to using two 2x4, clapping them loudly together. Do not rush your puppy. Go at his pace. At about 4 months start training with a 22 rifle. Have a friend standing several steps away shoot in the air while you throw the dog’s favorite retrieve item. Gradually change over to a shotgun as your dog seems ready.
